The Adoption Process
- The first step in applying to adopt a Pug or Pug mix from PPR is to fill out an adoption application. Adoption applications can be downloaded from our website at the bottom of this page and sent in by mail or you can apply electronically by downloading an application, completing the application and emailing it back to maria@pacificpugrescue.org or kay@pacificpugrescue.org
- Once we have received your application and have had a chance to review it (which can take several weeks) you will be contacted by one of our volunteers if we have a Pug or Pug mix which may be a suitable match for you. At that time, our volunteer will discuss the available Pug or Pug mix with you to determine if there may be a good match between you and the Pug.
- If there is a potential match between an adopter and a Pug or Pug mix, the volunteer who is fostering the Pug will then contact you to set up a meet and greet/home visit at your home. This allows us to make sure that your home is Pug-proofed and otherwise compatible for the new adoptee. We require all family members, human and pets, to be present at the time of the meet and greet/home visit. If all parties agree that the Pug or Pug mix is a good match, there is a 24 hour waiting period before the adoption is complete. This gives everyone a cooling off period and a day to reflect and make sure that the decision to adopt is the right decision for everyone involved. Our goal is to find a "forever" home for each Pug and Pug mix in our rescue program therefore we want this decision to be a well thought out one.
- The last step in the adoption process is the signing of the adoption contract. The PPR adoption contract states, among other things, that if for any reason you cannot keep the Pug or Pug mix during any time during the dog's life, they are returned to PPR. There are no exceptions to this rule.
We are an all volunteer organization. The time you can expect to wait to hear from a PPR representative depends on many factors. PPR takes many things into consideration when placing Pugs. The more flexible you are regarding age, gender, color and physical condition of the Pug, the more likely you will hear from us sooner. We will contact you if we have a Pug or Pug mix that may be a suitable match for you. Email is the most effective and preferred way to communicate with PPR volunteers. Due to the volume of phone calls we receive we may not be able to return calls checking the status of adoption applications. There are a small group of volunteers that handle all of the tasks related with rescuing Pugs. Our volunteers also have families, jobs, and pets of their own. We thank you for your patience and understanding in having to wait to be contacted.
Pacific Pug Rescue is the companion animal's advocate and will select the most suitably matched home for the dog's general needs and the unique needs of each individual dog in our care. We reserve the right to refuse service and adoption without explanation.
